A deluxe karabela from the reign of Maria Theresa, circa 1740/50 Slightly curved single-edged blade made of fine, forge-welded Damascus steel (partly pitted) with fullers on both sides and double-edged Pandour point. The base with applied ricasso chiselled with cyphers "MT "und "FS" for Maria Theresa and Francis Stephen I on a gold-plated background. Gilt brass quillons (varnished). The obverse with double-headed eagle, the breast shield with coat of arms of the Habsburg-Toskana line, the reverse with repeated cypher "MT".
