I also told him thatwhen he reached nineteen it began in the same wayagain, only with two instead of one, saying he must usetwenty, then twenty-one, etc. He then asked whatcame after twenty-nine. I said he should use three,four, and five, and so on in the same way as he hadused two in twenty. He then began by himself, count-ing up to ninety-nine, but saying three-ty and five-ty forthirty and fifty, until I corrected him. For a long timeafter this he thought only of numbers as consisting ofone or two figures—as, for instance, 8 or 24,
