Medical Uses.—Yervain or Yervine is a common plant,growing by field sides, or in waste places. It rises about twofeet in hight, and bears white, or pnrpli&h flowers. An in-fusion of the leaves is of much service in jaundice, nephriticdisorders, severe pains, worms-, colds, coughs, s-hortness ofbreath, asthmatic affections, or diseases of the lungs, stomach,liver, and spleen. It may be used to advantage with somehoney for canker in the mouth and ulcers generally—like-wise as an application to the forehead and temples; with theoil of roses^ it affords relief in inveterate headache and deli-rium. Persons troubled with piles will derive benefit froman ointment made of lard and Yervain.
