Out of this modest beginning-has grown what is now known as the firm ofBarker Brothers, their enterprise being one of themost extensive of its kind in Southern Cali-fornia. In 1887 Mr. Barker practically retiredfrom business, although his name was still usedin the style of the firm name until i8g8. in whichyear the title became Barker Brothers. The newfirm moved to the Van Nuys building at South Spring street, which had beenerected for their use, and they are still in thislocation engaged in the sale of furniture, car-. Their establisliiiientis quite extensive, extending from Spring streetthrough to Alain street, and is several stories inheight. Each department is ingeniously arrangedto exhibit the ,stock to the best advantage andis carefully looked after by an expert in his lineof work. Barker Brothers are fully equippedfor the business they carry on and easily holdrank among the most extensive enterprises ofthe kmd in Los Angeles. After his retirement from business Mr. Bar-ker located in Pasadena, his home at No. 1449Fair Oaks avenue being presided over by hiswife. Of the six children born of their unionthree sons are living, namely: O. J., CharlesH. and William A., all members of the businessfirm of Barker Bros. JNIr. and Mrs. Barkerare members of the First
