Antarctic icebreaker ship. RSS Bransfield sailing through pack ice. Pack ice consists of blocks of ice floating on the sea. It originates from frozen seawater and ice from glaciers and ice shelves, driven together by wind and sea currents to form a mass of ice covering the sea. Icebreaker ships are specially reinforced to break their way through pack ice. Photographed in Antarctica.
