Portlands electric car lines are a marvel of construction and equipment, especially thePortland Railroad, which runs all the city lines. Tis said that this plant is known far andwide as a model, and is visited b\- experts from all over, seeking points. These lines extend out and through most beautiful suburbs and bring the city in closetouch with a population at least of 60,000 souls, which should be recognized as Portlandstrue JUST ABOVE THE LANDING.—CASTINE. All Portlands five steam railroads centre in one grand Union station, scrupulously keptin order and which looks as though it were gone over with a tooth-brush every morning. Such trains as pass east from its portals over the Maine Central and west over theBoston & Maine twould do your business heart good to see. Do you know that the claimis that no run of Pullman cars in the country equals in value the Bar Harbor — Bangor —Bo^^ton run over the Maine Central and Boston & Maine roads. Duringone month (August97) by actual count there were passengers carried in parlor and sleeping-cars of Central Railroad alone. At this Union Station one day of last week I saw a distinguished son of Portland andof Maine, none other than the Speaker of the House, Thomas B.
