Illustration depicting a black hole, wormhole, accretion disk and the bending of spacetime. A black hole is a collapsed star, so dense that its gravity prevents even light from escaping. Material falling into this deep gravity well swirls around the black hole in an accretion disk. A wormhole, or Einstein-Rosen bridge, is a theoretical 'tunnel' through spacetime, allowed by the theory of general relativity. In principle, a wormhole connects two regions in the universe or two different regions in space as well as time.
