Male pelvis bones and joints. Frontal X-ray of the bones and joints of the pelvis of a 26-year-old man. The bones of the pelvis articulate with the femur bones to form the hip joints. The rear of the pelvis is formed of the sacrum and the coccyx, the lower parts of the vertebral column (backbone). The sacrum articulates with the rest of the backbone at the lumbosacral joint. The dark areas and shadows on the X-ray indicate the presence of various soft tissues of the abdomen, groin and leg, including the intestines.
