A barge being pushed from the South Branch of the Chicago River and under Chicago's Lake Street Bridge adds to the busy traffic on the river during warm weather months. The barge was headed up to the North Branch of the Chicago River as spectators formed on the bridge to watch the activity. In the background is one of the familiar bridge towers that dot all of the bridges across the river. When river traffic is of sufficient height, bridge tenders in the tower will stop traffic and raise the bridge to allow ships to pass.
