The Platycodon seems to be not generally known, yet it is an aquisition to the perennial bed that no one who has had it would wish to be without. It is a hardy perennial, blooming the tirst year from seed, and will live in the ground over winter and bloom profusely year after year. Its buds art- very curious, the petals being joined at their edges forming a perfect puff ball, whose development it is interesting to watch.
