Porte St Martin


The view, taken in 1828, shows the Porte St Martin which is situated in the Boulevard St Martin which separates Rue St Martin from Faubourg St Martin. The triumphal arch was designed by Pierre Bullet a pupil of Francis Blundell who designed Porte St Denis. One bas-relief depicts the conquests of Louis XIV and the other the king himself. The other side shows the taking of Limbourg and the defeat of the Germans. The designers were Desjardins, Marsy, Le Hongre and Legros. The image was drawn by T T Bury and engraved by J Henshall
