Consumer society. Abstract image of a young man's face and torso with a bar code superimposed. This may represent the consumeri- sation of society. And the materialism of humans in which life is numbered, stamped, packaged and priced. A bar code is a series of black lines and spaces of varying thickness used to code information. Bar codes are found on a wide variety of products, from items of food and clothing, to library books. The bar code is read by a bar code scanner which measures the reflected light from the bars and spaces.
