Demobilisation of the British Army The four millionth British soldier to be demobilised, Rifleman John Neale, aged 31, of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, on board a troopship at Calais with the ship's captain, Commodore Master T C Woods, and Lieutenant Colonel Warton, Port Commandant of Calais. Rifleman Neale, of Hounslow, Middlesex, served as an officer's batman before demobilisation.
