The Royal Observatory, Greenwich, in London played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the prime meridian. It is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park. Flamsteed House, the original part of the Observatory, was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Opened in 1676. Peter Harrison Planetarium opened in 2007.
