The greatest credit is due to all concerned for the manner in which the work was handled. 3. The equipment purchased. The rather complete equipment which has been supplied to the reserve was one of the main factors in hold- ing the fires in check. The tools on each dis- trict were found to be entirely adequate for all demands and all of our crews were easily, com- pletely and quickly outfitted. The motor velocipede which has been in use for four or five years and maintamed m good repair proved indispensable, and particular mention should be nnade of the service rendered by the gasoline pumping engine received last fall. This pumping unit proved to be invalu- able and in one case saved the situation, when there was danger of both Hawkes mill and the village of Hudson Bay Junction burning. "Finally, I have no doubt whatever but that the worst of fire seasons can be successfully handled on this reserve provided that the tem- porary patrol staff is greatly increased and the improvement programme is carried on from year to year as in the past. In a season such as this at least three extra patrolmen should be placed on each ranger district and used on improve- ment work, when the fire season is over. I be- lieve that the fire situation would be better and much more cheaply handled by this means. , by prevention, and better satisfaction ob- tained all ;.
