The ends or epiphyses are hyaline articular cartilage (blue) with their epiphyseal growth plates facing the mid region. Developing spongy, or cancellous, bone (pink) occupies the diaphyseal region. Paraffin section, alcian blue, and haematoxylin and eosin stain. Magnification: x15 when width printed at 10cm.
