The palace was the home of The Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park, the architect Sir Joseph Paxton, with its innovative cast iron and glass construction, it was a highlight of Victorian engineering. The Palace was moved to Sydenham in 1852 and Crystal Palace Park opened by Queen Victoria It burnt down This view was taken shortly after the fire - a vintage nineteen thirties photograph from.
