DISSECTION OF THE NECK. 69 this nerve curves round the sub-clavian artery, andthen continues forward into the neck as giving off other branches to the lungs, thevagus descends along the oesophagus, and finallydivides into two branches, one of which passes to thedorsal side of the oesophagus, and is there joined by asimilar branch from the right vague ; the other divisionpasses to the ventral side of the oesophagus, where itjoins the similar ventral branch of the right two new trunks thus formed can be traced to thestomach ; each ends in a plexus of nerve-fibres, whichare distributed to the stomach and make connectionsalso with the solar plexus of the coeliac ganglia. 18.
