These men are bettercalculated to labor among the German settlers of Minnesota thanare candidates from universities or from our seminaries inthis country. The most of them will be able to get along, ifwe can only allow them fifty dollars a year in addition to whatthey may get from the people. After inviting them to comeover, it would be unfortunate, discreditable, and injurious toour cause, if we should fail to assist them with the small amountabove stated. I have written to the Pennsylvania MissionaryCommittee, and also to the Committee of the General Synod in. WORK AMONG THE SCANDINAVIANS. 369 Baltimore. What these committees may be able and willing todo for Minnesota I do not know yet; if you should be presentat the meeting of the Pennsylvania Synod in Easton, I trustyou will plead for Minnesota. Br. Fachtman is doing what hecan to provide places, etc., for the new assistants in Minnesota, but he is sometimes almost overburdened, being^ poor himself, hemust be furnished with the means to help the brethren whohave arrived and others who are yet coming, or there will besuffering among them. If it were in your power from any fundsor resources at your disposal to send twenty-five or fifty dollarsto Br. Fachtman soon, it would be a great relief to him. Inconclusion, allow me to make one more suggestion. When thewar is over, the Christian Commission will have performed itsgreat labor of love, the benevolent in our Lutheran communityshould then be encouraged to provide clothing and other ar-ticles for our poo
