The National Bank of Chester County has a history of unusualinterest. At the session of the Legislature of 1812-13 a movementwas made to establish twenty-flve new banks in the State. Thereason for this movement lay in the fact that the United StatesBank in Philadelphia, the fate of which had been decided by thecasting vote of Vice-President Clinton in the Senate of the UnitedStates, was about to wind up its affairs. The bill authorizing theestablishment of these twenty-five new banks was passed by theHouse of Representatives of Pennsylvania by a vote of
