Down they dropped through the clearwater, and when the bottom was reachedDiarmuid was so astonished at the sightbefore his eyes that he loosened his grip on themagician, who escaped as quickly as he could. The well had widened out into a broadlake, with little waves breaking on goldensands, and rippling over Diarmuids feet. Hestood there, wondering what country of theSidhe he had reached, for before him stretcheda wide green plain, with beautiful flowersgrowing over it, and shining white palacesstanding in its midst, and before the largestof the palaces a multitude
