Not for use in Television Not for use in Television Bunions and osteoarthritis in the feet of a female patient. A bunion (hallux valgus) is a deformity characterised by sideways deviation of the big toe, creating a protruding joint between the toe and the metatarsal bone. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that damages the cartilage between joints due to wear and tear. As cartilage cannot repair itself, new bone grows causing swelling, pain, stiffness and deformity. Bunions may also be caused by genetic factors and may be exacerbated by ill-fitting footwear.
