The ratchetwheel A and chain sheave C, with its•case, are located on the end sill of the plat-form, with the lever B coming up besidethe end railing or hood. When not being■operated, this lever is perpendicular;when being operated it is moved towardsthe middle of the platform gate. The pawl D, fastened to lever B, en-■gages with the ratchet wheel to wind upthe brake chain when the lever is movedover, and the pawl E holds the ratchetwheel from coming back.
