In August of the same year he receivedhis commission, and spent about eight monthsas musketry instructor at home. In April 1917he was again at the Front. For his brilliantand courageous action during the terrible daysof March 1918, he was awarded the MilitaryCross ; and from then till 20 July 1918, whenhe fell at the Bois de Courton north of Epernay,he took part in all the fighting where his Bat-talion had so foremost a place.
