Farmers' representatives are warning of serious concerns if the extended spell of hot, dry weather continues. Potatoes are the latest crop in line for price rises thanks to a shortage caused by an unusually cold winter, followed by the scorching summer. Herbicide, carfentrazone-ethyl is applied to a crop shortly before harvest to kill the foliage.
Pre-harvest crop desiccation (also siccation) refers to the application of a herbicide to a crop shortly before harvest. Herbicides used include glyphosate, diquat and glufosinate. For potatoes, carfentrazone-ethyl is used.
