If it involves the entire organ, infil-tration should be done around the base (Figs. loo and loi). If theoperation involves the contents of the scrotum, the cord should beexposed just below the spine of the pubis on one or both sides, as thecase may require, and blocked there. The genitocrural nerve lies atthe back of the cord, near the vas (Figs. 94 and 102). By infiltratingthe cord freely in this position the nerve is reached; it is not necessaryto directly expose it. In making an injection here care should betaken not to enter any of the large veins which may be found in thisregion. Make the injection only when advancing or withdrawingthe needle, not when the needle is stationary, unless the parts areplainly in view. The following case, operated on by P
