Cycles back lit by the sun above the entrance to the Sendlinger Tor U-bahn underground station in Munich, Germany. Cycling is extremely popular in Munich, Munich being a geographically flat city and the people of Munich being relatively health conscious. U-bahn is the name for the German underground rapid transport system. They run on electric rails and although they do not exclusively run underground they are usually in tunnel systems under major cities. Cycling is a form of transport invented in the 19th century and quickly grew very popular as it was, compared to horses, a fairly cheap and efficient form of transport. After the invention of cars and once cars became affordable to all, however, cycling became more of a hobby or weekend activity. Today, however, with concerns about global warming and high fuel prices cycling has become increasingly popular once again.
