In addition to the group of these organs situatedin the terminal segment, there is one, or in some rarecases I have found two, in each of the small precedingsegments. The tubes in these segments appeared tothe eye to be nearly of the same length as those in theterminal segment, but I could not measure their exactlength, as they do not lie flat. In some cases, whenthe segment was short, the tube was bent—an indica-tion, perhaps, that the exact length is of is possible that these curious organs may be audi-tory, and serve like microscopic stethoscopes.
