Tephra surface of Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai island


Tephra surface of the Tongan island Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai. This island was formed in 2015 after an eruption of the submarine volcano called Hunga Tonga in 2014. Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai was destroyed by a powerful eruption of Hunga Tunga volcano on the 15th of January 2022. This eruption was the largest eruption of the 21st century to date and caused Pacific-wide tsunamis. Photographed on 4-5 June 2017.
