All the macadam roads are built on grades not ex-ceeding 5 per cent, and three of these roads havegrades not exceeding 3 per cent. Nearly all the im-proved dirt roads have grades not exceeding 5 percent. The grades obtained are considered to be verysatisfactory when the irregular topograph} of Mercercounty is known. Several of the roads cross highridges, especially those crossing the county from eastto west. The engineering work is in three sections in chargeof assistant engineers, the division offices being atPrinceton, Athens and Bramwell, with central office atPrinceton, thee omitj seat.
