Ahhough not a new plant, there is no vine that is so splendidly adapted to cov- ering trellises, running up porches, houses, old trees, arbors, etc-, and at the same time is so exquisitely beautiful as Cobcea scandens. Planted in May and allowed to grow at random, it will climb and run on- ward and upward until it reaches the roof of a two-story house, and all the while bring forth upon long stems blossoms of the most beautiful purple hue imaginable. Planted with the Moon-flower, they rival each other as to which shall reach the top of roof first, and will all the while displv a purple blossom glory unknown to any other flower or vine. The purple Clematis Jackmanni is beautiful, but its duration of bloom is comparative!}' short, while the Cobcca scandens continually lavishes its mass of great purple bell-shaped, perfect, pendent blossoms during the whole season. Its leaves are fresh, green, of unusual rich- ness and beauty of cut, while the gorgeous glory of its great purpie blossoms stands unrivaled. Although it should not be planted out until warm weather, it stands all the light early fall frosts. Moon-flower and CobcBa scandens together as vines cannot be excelled.
