Skull in Paget's disease, post-mortem. Close-up of a section through part of the skull, from the outside (bottom) to the interior surface (top). Here, the skull bones are thickened due to Paget's disease. Also called osteitis deformans, this is a chronic bone disease usually occuring in the elderly. The affected bone becomes thickened and deformed by excessive and disorganised resorption and formation of bone.
