Platanenhain, Mathildenhöhe, Darmstadt. Bernhard Hoetger's design of the Platanenhain was a highlight of the last exhibition of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony in 1914. He used sculptures, fountains and plane trees to create a celebration of the cycle of life and the seasons. Reliefs (spring, summer, sleep and Resurrection), animal figurines, pitcher bearers, text reliefs, vases, fountains, Egyptian motifs and poetry decorate the shaded park. Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. The Luisenplatz is the central square of the city and the Langer Lui (Long Ludwig) stands in the centre of the square, This 33 meter column commemorates Ludwig 1, the first Grand Duke of Hesse.
