Private Liles, a member of the Signal Corps, is photographed standing in the ruins of a church in Etain, Meuse, France. The church was destroyed as a result of Allied shell fire during an attack of the 81st Division. The photo was taken on March 1, 1919, and shows the view towards the altar.
