A high stiff spike like black double tuft as long as the body is thick on thefirst and third abdominal segments, and a double spike on the eighth. Length 26 to27mm. 9. Apatela daetylina Grote. This species is said by Mr. Thaxter (Papilio, iii, p. 17) to feed onthe alder and willow. 10. Apatela sp. This Apatela, allied to A. oblinita, occurred on the alder September 4. This is in form closely similar to A. oblinita^ but it has no transversecrimson-red bands, and the lateral line is not bright yellow, asdescribed in A. ohlinita by Eiley. The moth emerged May 31. Larva.—Head of moderate size, not so wide as the body, black chestnut brown onthe vertex. Body blackish brown but the setiferous
