Carn Euny. Iron age ancient village in south-west England. It was inhabited from the Iron Age until the end of the Roman occupation of Britain (about 400 BC–AD 400). This is inside the underground stone-walled passage and room, known as a ‘fogou’. Earlier buildings know as ‘round houses’ made of timber with thatched roofs were replaced with larger, stone ‘courtyard’ houses. The visible ruins above ground mark the remains of these later houses.
