If a barrel or large tub of water can be kept near the garden and a little manure be placed in it from time to time the liquid will be excellent to use in watering the soil around the plants. Sprayers and spray materials are often necessary in fighting insects and plant diseases (see Chapter XX). A small hand sprayer or atomizer, holding a quart, may be large enough for small gardens either at home or at school. Such may be had in most local markets at fifty or seventy-five cents each. Bucket sprayers, costing two or three times as much, may be needed for shrubbery, small fruits, and young trees.
