A dramatic double rainbow against an angry purple evening sky, photographed at Whitby, Yorkshire, UK in 2017. Traditionally purple evening skies predict heavy winds or stormy conditions. An evening rainbow is called a moonbow, or lunar rainbow. They can usually only be see at a full moon (or at a near full moon). They are generally fainter than a normal rainbow , due to the smaller amount of light reflected from the surface of the moon and are relatively rare. A double moonbow is even rarer.
