Grey heron (Ardea cinerea) flying with its neck outstretched. Normally, herons fly with their necked retracted in an S-shape under their body. Grey herons are large wading birds that have a wingspan of nearly two metres. They are found near estuaries, marshes, rivers and, increasingly, lakes in city parks throughout much of Europe. Photographed in the Netherlands, in March.
