ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT HONOR AT THE BAYTON LODGE QUARANTINE KENNELS IN WARWICKSHIRE. An illegal immigrant has finally been caught and locked away after a week on the run in Oxfordshire. Honor, a Chinese Shar Pei, made her bid for freedom when she leapt from the back of a Polish lorry that was parked at an Esso service station in Bicester, but she was spotted by a passer by who alerted the authorities. Officers from Oxford Trading Standards who deal with illegal landings, dog wardens and the local dog rescue centre rushed to the scene but 2 year old Honor evaded capture. After seven days on the run the hungry and exhausted fugitive was tempted into a trap by a huge juicy bone. Annabelle Pottle from the Ardley Dog Rescue Kennels, who masterminded Honor’s capture, said ‘When I finally managed to catch her I just wanted to take her to the kennels and give her a good meal, but as she is an illegal immigrant and very strict procedures had to be followed and of course it meant that Honor had to go into quarantine.’’ For two hours Annabelle, the dog, and three trading standards officers, had to sit it out in the lorry waiting for a special double lined van to arrive from Nuneaton in Warwickshire to take the stray to quarantine kennels. After arriving at the Bayton Lodge Kennels near Nuneaton, Honor was found to have a Polish microchip, but despite extensive enquiries her owner was not traced and now Annabelle has been left to raise £2,500 to pay for 6 months quarantine or Honor will have to be put down. She said ‘The poor girl really needs our help, she is not the most beautiful dog in the world but deserves a bit of luck. It would be a real shame if we can’t save her after all she’s been through. After all she didn’t ask to be abandoned in this country ‘’ Ends PIC MIKE WALKER, 2010
