Arteries of the foot. Coloured arteriogram (angiogram) showing the network of arteries (blue) serving the human foot and lower leg. Arteriography is the X-ray examination of an artery that has been outlined by prior injection of a radio-opaque contrast medium. Angiography is used to locate vascular diseases such as the obstructions in arteries due to atherosclerosis or aneurysms, balloon-like enlargments of the arterial wall.
