The cruise liner "Ovation of the Seas" moored in Lyttelton Harbour, a port on the Banks Peninsula on New Zealands south island.

Lyttelton's upgraded cruise ship terminel was opened in late November 2020. Smaller vessels had previously docked there but nothing large since the Christchurch earthquake of February 2011. Its 148 metre bearth can now cater for vessels up to 362 metres long, carrying 6000 passengers and 2000 crew. A large ship docking in Lyttelton certainly changes the character of this small, quaint, sleepy port town. Whether its for the better or not depends if you are making money from the influx of tourists wandering round the small centre and looking like fish out of water!
