The site of the sluicings at the old gold field at Bannockburn in Central Otago. The landscape has been washed away during the extraction of the gold. at this site the water was dammed and could then be used either as ground sluicing or could be pressurised to wash the gold-bearing gravels out so the gold could then be extracted from them. The pressure washing removed vast areas of gravel and some of the exploratory holes, looking like caves, can still be seen on the hillsides. Visitors to the Historic Sluicings Reserve can choose from a number of paths to explore the area and walk to the restored buildings used by the miners and ttheir families.
