A Northern Railway train stands in the bay platform at Wigan Wallgate station in Greater Manchester before working a service to Kirkby on Merseyside.
Because of industrial action by the RMT on the Northern Railway was unable to run a full timetable. They also revised the timetable on services they could run and on the two lines that they run to the west of Wigan to Kirkby and Southport they ran a shuttle service which didn’t run beyond Wigan. The normal services run to Manchester and beyond. Here the “Pacer” unit no 142043 stands in the bay platform at Wigan Wallgate station awaiting its next duty which will be the service to Kirkby. This platform is not normally used for train services from and to Wigan. October
