Bierstube Alt Berlin, Traditional Old Pub exterior in Chausseestrasse 102, Berlin, Germany. In 2014, the original Alt-Berlin pub at Münzstraße 23, the oldest pub in Berlin had to close after 121 years. Gentrification had taken its toll and a Hamburg speculator closed the pub when the lease expired. The Contents of the little wood-panelled bar were rescued and in 2016 the pub re-opened using the original furnishings at a new location alongside the Ballhaus Berlin. The new owner, Christof Blaesius was a regular guest of the original pub. The door sign, the wooden bar, the lamps, the furniture and the dark oak panelling on the walls were stored when the pub closed. The original 1893 rustic restaurant survived two world wars and the GDR. It was visited by many well-known people including Bertolt Brecht, David Bowie, Bill Murray, Quentin Tarantino and Jürgen Klopp. Regular guests signed a petition in an attempt to save the pub without success.
