In the upper limbsthe depressors of the arm are usually alone weakened during the earlyperiod of the disease, but subsequently the shoulder muscles suffer,then the triceps and the biceps, while the muscles that move the handcommonly retain good power to the last. The distribution of weakness in the legs causes certain peculiardefects of movement which are very characteristic, and some are evenall but pathognomonic of the disease.
