The Cornishengines are held in reserve and are al-ways ready for use. gallons a day. Boiler Insufficiency andother complications have delayed the fulluse of this pump and its efficiency couldnot be tested during the year of the lastreport, 1912. With a maximum pumpageof nearly 40,000,000 gallons a day and anaverage of about 25,000,000 gallons anytwo of the pumps in the new station canmeet the demands and for much of thetime either of the newer pumps can takecare of them. The river stations pumpto the Crescent Hill reservoir, first builtin 1877-9, under a head of 190 RESERVOIR for j,il,,,.l , , ./.v ilappeared under construction. Formsfor roof arches in place at the right. The architectural character of thebuilding and the standpipe adjoining itare quite remarkable. The flood of April2, 1913, did not quite reach the level ofthe entrance to the building. The new pumping station at the riverhas a pumping engine designed by and E. D. Leavitt in 1893, of18,000,000 gallons capacity, and an Allis-Chalmers pump built in 1908 of 24,000,000gallons capacity. A new Worthington cen-trifugal pump was installed in 1912 in-creasing the pumping capacity 30,000,000 The water from the reservoir flows bygravity thru the filter plant to theCrescent Hill pumping station, wherethere are three Holly pumps, each of24,000,000 gallons capacity, two Installedin 1906 and one in 1908, so that thisstation is on a par with the new riverstation. These pumps deliver directlyinto the distribution system under anaverage head of about 110 feet. Th
