Hospital de Cervello, Olesa de Bonesvalls. Antique medieval hospital.


Founded by testamentary bequest of William II de Cervello 1262. It was built close to the old road from Barcelona to Vilafranca mission was to serve and provide hosting pedestrian poor and pilgrims who passed. Initially depended monastery of Sant Pau del Camp, but in 1297 Guerau VII Cervello without legitimate offspring, sold the barony to King Jaume II and the Hospital and the crown passed to depend on the Bishopric of Barcelona. In a document from 1312 indicates that about 400 people were taken care each month. That made around the hospital, houses were built to accommodate the people who worked and formed a core known as Puebla de Cervello (now district hospital). The building of the hospital, along with the chapel is located within a walled enclosure. Raised in the thirteenth century, consists of two buildings superimposed resolved with diaphragm arches and a rectangular tower defense. Towards the late sixteenth and early seventeenth modifications that were made sobrealçar the ship and other reforms which conferred the appearance we see today. The main facade is made of stone blocks very regular and well cut. The façade opposite, where there is now a farmhouse, we see part of the wall old on the large doorway shield the brain under registration 1590: This hospital founded in the past by Guillem de Cervello, Bishop Juan Loris Dimes has now restored. It was likely that this reform when it was placed on the door of the fence outside a Roman mask, perhaps from Tarragona, modified inquibir it. Hospital activity began to decline towards the end of the eighteenth century, when it opened the road Ordal and much diminished flow of pedestrians. Confiscated in the nineteenth century, was acquired by the industrialist Manuel Girona, who returned to the diocese.
