Buck was born about fifty miles east ofMontreal, in the province of Quebec, Canada, onJune 24, 1856. He is the son of Martin Buck, alsoa native of the province of Quebec and a life-longfarmer. The family originated in England, whencethe progenitors came to America and settled inVermont during the colonial period, later membersof the family immigrating to Canada.
