The following winter wasknown as the hard winter, the snow being verydeep and lasting and the weather severely cold; andtue family had to subsist mainly on boiled corn orhominy, and some wild game, for several weeks. Inthe course of time Mr. R. N. Cullora became a prom-inent citizen and was several times elected to theLegislature, both before and after the removal of thecapital from Vandalia to Springfield.
